Jeffrey Lai, MD, is an emergency medicine physician and first-year fellow in medical toxicology. Dr. Lai kicked off his career in exploring harmful substances during his undergraduate studies at the University of California Berkeley, where he conducted basic science research into virulence factors associated with Salmonella. After a stint at Sangamo BioSciences working on Parkinson’s disease, he matriculated in medical school, where he continued to participate in high level, complex-sounding research, describing the effect of exogenous glucocorticoids in neural progenitor cells in a murine model. His interest in the biochemical pathways of xenobiotics led him to pursue a medical toxicology fellowship.
